AIRWAAV x Mission 22: A Partnership for Purpose, Performance, and Recovery
At AIRWAAV, we are proud to partner with Mission 22, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering veterans through fitness, nutrition, mental health, and holistic care. Together, we’ve launched the AIRWAAV x Mission 22 Collection—a limited-edition co-branded mouthpiece designed to support Mission 22’s impactful programs. With every purchase, a portion of the proceeds will go directly toward helping veterans and their families thrive in life beyond service.
Supporting Veterans on Their Path to Wellness
Mission 22 was founded by Magnus Johnson, a former Green Beret, in response to the challenges veterans face after service, including trauma, PTSD, and a high suicide rate. Through frustration with the lack of effective care, Magnus set out to create holistic, community-based solutions that bridge the gaps in traditional veteran services. Mission 22’s programs integrate mental, physical, and emotional wellness, giving veterans the tools they need to build purposeful lives beyond trauma.
“We want to empower veterans to take ownership of their healing journey and become free from reliance on external support,” explains Magnus.
The Recovery and Resiliency Program, one of Mission 22’s core initiatives, encourages veterans to engage in activities like CrossFit, Jiu-Jitsu, and health coaching, all while fostering a sense of community. Participants track their progress using tools such as heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking, with an emphasis on biofeedback to manage recovery and set achievable goals.
“We wanted veterans to experience something hard but not do it alone,” Magnus shares.
Why AIRWAAV Supports Mission 22
At AIRWAAV, our mission aligns perfectly with Mission 22’s focus on performance, recovery, and emotional well-being. We believe that everyone—whether an elite athlete or someone transitioning out of military service—should have access to tools that optimize performance and health. The AIRWAAV mouthpiece enhances oxygen intake, improving both recovery and physical performance, making it a natural fit for Mission 22’s holistic approach.
When Magnus first tried AIRWAAV’s performance and recovery mouthpieces, the benefits were immediate. Struggling with teeth grinding, sleep apnea, and poor oxygen intake in both sleep and workouts, Magnus found that AIRWAAV offered relief on multiple fronts:
“Within a week, my perceived effort and gym performance improved,” Magnus recalls. “I also saw noticeable improvements in REM sleep and recovery on my Garmin watch. My wife even stopped waking me up at night because my snoring decreased.”
Performance Meets Purpose: The Power of Breath and Recovery
AIRWAAV’s technology aligns with Mission 22’s holistic philosophy by supporting better oxygen intake, emotional regulation, and physical recovery. Magnus explains that many veterans experience issues such as low testosterone, sleep disturbances, and inflammation—conditions that improved oxygen flow can help mitigate.
“Oxygen is essential for mental clarity, emotional regulation, and recovery,” Magnus emphasizes. “It’s key to reducing inflammation and balancing hormones—challenges many veterans struggle with.”
Beyond athletic performance, AIRWAAV’s mouthpieces have also fostered greater breath awareness in Magnus’s daily life. “Using AIRWAAV has made me more conscious of taking deeper breaths during stressful moments, helping me manage emotions and stay focused,” he says.
Magnus recommends the recovery mouthpiece for veterans, given the critical importance of sleep in the healing process. “For many veterans, poor sleep is a major barrier to progress,” he explains. “If sleep improves, everything else—therapy, coaching, and relationships—works better.”
Building a Life Beyond Trauma
A core philosophy of Mission 22 is helping veterans develop new identities beyond their military experience. As Magnus puts it, “I’m not a ‘veteran athlete’—I’m an athlete who happens to be a veteran.”
Through its programs, Mission 22 encourages participants to rebuild their lives with intention and purpose, offering tools to manage trauma, set goals, and cultivate personal growth. “Trauma doesn’t define you,” Magnus says. “We can grow from it, but it takes effort, discipline, and community support.”
Mission 22 also works to change the narrative around veteran mental health, promoting strength through recovery rather than allowing trauma to dominate identities. “Whatever has been redeemed in your life, you can use to help others,” Magnus adds. “That’s what we’re about—helping veterans build lives of purpose and freedom.”
