Games Bound: Domit, Hatfield & Mertens Punch Their Ticket to Albany
The road to the 2025 CrossFit Games has officially begun, and the first three athletes to claim their spots on the roster have made a powerful statement. AIRWAAV Athletes Abigail Domit, Austin Hatfield, and Colten Mertens secured their Games tickets at the Mayhem Classic, the season’s first In-Person Qualifier, setting the tone for what’s to come this year.
Set for August in Albany, NY, the 2025 CrossFit Games will host 30 men and 30 women. Eighteen of those spots will come from 10 In-Person Qualifiers, 11 more will come via the In-Affiliate Online Semifinal from May 1–4, and one final chance will come through the Last Chance Qualifier. With their performances this past weekend, Domit, Hatfield, and Mertens no longer have to wonder. Their tickets are punched. Now, they can focus on training — with peace of mind — and prepare to take on the world’s biggest CrossFit stage.
Austin Hatfield: The Rising Threat
Austin Hatfield’s breakout 2024 rookie season turned heads — but this year, he’s on a mission. Coming off a 4th place finish in this year’s CrossFit Open, Hatfield dominated at the Mayhem Classic, taking 1st place in both Event 1 and Event 3, narrowly edging out fellow AIRWAAV athlete, Colten Mertens by six seconds in the third workout.
Hatfield also holds a WFP Pro Card and will be competing in the World Fitness Project Tour’s first event in Indianapolis on May 9–11.
Colten Mertens: Back with a Vengeance
After narrowly missing qualification in 2024, Colten Mertens came back hungry — and it showed. He dominated the 2025 CrossFit Open, finishing 1st in two out of three events and 2nd in the final one, claiming the overall win. He carried that momentum straight into the Mayhem Classic, making it clear: Colten’s back — and better than ever.
Mertens will join Hatfield in the WFP Pro Division this May.
Abigail Domit: The Consistent Force
2025 will mark Abigail Domit’s third consecutive CrossFit Games appearance — an impressive achievement especially for someone who only started CrossFit in 2020. A steady climber in the women’s division, Domit finished 45th worldwide in the Open and tied for first at the Mayhem Classic. Though she narrowly lost the tiebreak to Saghafi, her performance was more than enough to solidify her Games ticket.
Domit has also qualified for the Challenger Division at the upcoming WFP Tour Event in Indianapolis.
Making a Statement
With five events packed into one intense weekend, the Mayhem Classic was no small feat. But Hatfield, Mertens, and Domit rose to the occasion — proving that they’re not just Games-bound, but Games-ready.
Stay tuned as we continue spotlighting the athletes who trust AIRWAAV on their journey to the CrossFit Games.
