FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Like most things the AIRWAAV™ Performance Mouthpiece (device) will take some time to get used to. After molding we suggest getting used to your mouth and body used to the device by using it in a “shorter” workout. That could be a short HIIT workout or even a shorter run. The device is made of a special material that can be remolded but we’ve found after a few (three to five) wears/uses the body will get used to the device and it will fit perfectly.

The AIRWAAV™ Performance Mouthpiece is backed by 15 years of research and development including peer-reviewed published articles about its efficacy. It is patented and is different from every other device because it’s built to support both your strength and conditioning work. In addition to supporting both strength and conditioning work AIRWAAV® supports your recovery by reducing extra strain on the body (lower BPM) and by lowering cortisol levels.

AIRWAAV® Performance Mouthpiece (device) is built to support your training no matter what sport you’re playing. However, it is NOT built/constructed in any way to protect your teeth during contact sports. So if you’re playing a contact sport please do not use AIRWAAV® to project your teeth. But if you’re competing in an event that is a non-contact sport we highly recommend you use the device in both your training and competition. No matter if you use the device in competition or not, basic physiological understanding will tell you that if you use the device that’s built to support your training by increasing strength and lowering your BPM you will be able to bump your training to the next level which will impact your performance with and without the device.

NO. In fact, the AIRWAAV® Performance Mouthpiece (device) adjusts your mandible and positions your tongue in a way that makes breathing more natural and efficient. Which has shown to reduce your breaths per minute (BPM) by up to 20%.

We will be releasing AIRWAAV™ All Natural Mouthpiece Cleaner, but in the meantime, use cool water and light soap or toothpaste and gently brush with a toothbrush.

Every AIRWAAV® Performance Mouthpiece is backed by a replacement guarantee. If you’re not satisfied with your mouthpiece, we will replace it free of charge for up to one year from the original date of purchase. AIRWAAV® also offers a product warranty against any product defects that could cause dental damage, but not a traditional dental warranty like ones that come with athletic mouthguards because the AIRWAAV® does not provide any protection for contact sports.

Nasal breathing can also be a great thing to work into your training. However, a number of studies have shown as athletes approach maximal effort, nasal breathing decreases performance. Studies have also found that at maximal effort, a natural switch to oral breathing occurs.

Absolutely! In fact, we have peer-reviewed, published research. Visit airwaav.com to review the studies or feel free to email customerservice@airwaav.com with any questions.

A “How-to” video and fitting device are available on the AIRWAAV® website. A microwave is the recommended method for fitting.

AIRWAAV® ENDURANCE and AIRWAAV® HIIT provide the same performance benefits with a different user experience. ENDURANCE provides a more snug fit, keeping the mouthpiece in place for endurance athletes who relax their jaw during long distance workouts or races..

Absolutely

The AIRWAAV® Performance Mouthpiece works by directing your tongue down and forward under the intake bar that sits behind the front row of your bottom teeth. This triggers a reflex that opens your airway by up to 25%.

Yes, that should be fine.

Every person's anatomy is different and will experience AIRWAAV® differently. Simply put, you should feel more efficient. You'll get the same or better results with less effort.

We suggest both – oral and nasal breathing. Just keep the tongue under the intake bar.
